DBD and Castlevania crossover brings Dracula and a Belmont to the game
The news that Castlevania is coming Dead in daylight has been known for a while, but aside from a few teasers, there have been few concrete details. Somehow, developer Behaviour Interactive has managed to keep it all under wraps, with fans having no idea who – or what – will arrive in the mist. Now, thanks to the game’s public test build, we know exactly who’s coming for dinner, and that means DBD has its first vampire slayer.
Dracula and Trevor Belmont are both set to appear in Dead by Daylight with the release of the horror game’s upcoming Castlevania chapter. Trevor is someone that even casual Castlevania fans will be familiar with, as he’s been in the games since the third title in the series and stars in the Netflix series. Dracula, on the other hand… is Dracula, and probably doesn’t need much of an introduction – other than to note that the Castlevania version of the character is more of a dark god than a creepy bedroom intruder.
As a survivor, Trevor Belmont comes with three new perks that seem like a bit of a mixed bag at first glance. Eyes of Belmont is perhaps the most useful, as it gives you a glimpse of the killer’s aura when a generator is completed. It also extends the duration of any perk that shows the killer’s aura, much like Lethal Pursuer does on the other side of the game’s divide.
The other two perks – Exultation and Moment of Glory – seem very situational. The former upgrades and recharges items when you hit a killer in the head with a pallet, and the other heals you after a minute when you get hurt after opening a chest. It feels like you can’t rely on these two perks, but when you need them they might just fill a gap.
Dracula, on the other hand, seems like a Swiss Army type character, much like the last assassin to enter the game – D&D lich Vecna. His power allows him to do different things depending on which form he takes with the vampire, wolf, and bat forms at his disposal. In vampire form, he can summon pillars of flame that surround and attack survivors. In wolf form, he hunts survivors, with faster movement, enhanced scratch marks, and scent orbs that he can track, presumably similar to the blood drops that the Oni can suck up. In bat form, the Dark Lord is stealthy, can fly over vault points, and can teleport around the map – though survivors become invisible, similar to the Spirit’s Phase-Walk ability.
In terms of perks, he has an aura reading perk, a blocking perk, and a hex that looks like it’ll mess with a certain survivor in every match. The aura reading perk is Human Greed, which allows him to see unopened chests and survivors that get close to them, along with the ability to kick open chests. Dominance blocks chests and totems the first time a survivor comes into contact with them for a while, revealing those items to the killer. Finally, Hex: Wretched Fate curses Obsession with slower repair rates after a generator completes – which seems like it might really screw with some specific survivor builds.
Of course, this is all from the public test build, meaning that everything could still change before the chapter finally comes out. You can play Dracula and Trevor Belmont on the PTB right now if you own the Steam version of the game. If you prefer to wait, Dead by Daylight Castlevania Chapter launches on Tuesday, August 27. More information can be found on the official announcement postas well as the full 8.2.0 PTB patch notes here.
